CRIME AGAINST WOMEN
1. Crime
against women has become a matter of growing concern. Crime Against Women, is defined as, any crime wherein only women
are victimized and include crime under the heads:-
1. Dowry Murder (498(A), 302 IPC)
2. Dowry death (304 B IPC)
3. Abetment to Suicide (498 (A), 306 IPC)
4. Harassment (498(A) IPC)
5. Murders (302 IPC)
6. Dowry Prohibition Act (3,4 and 6 DP
Act)
7. Rape (376 IPC)
8. Kidnapping (363,369 IPC)
9. Outraging of Modesty (354 IPC)
10. Bigamy (494,497
IPC)
- 13495
cases were registered during 2001 under Crime Against Women, showing an
increase of 3.32% over previous
year.
- Karimnagar
district with 998 cases ranked first in registering highest number of
cases of Crime Against Women during the year 2001 followed by Warangal
(945), Ranga Reddy (842), Guntur (783), Hyderabad City (742) and Nellore
(735).
- Warangal district registered highest number of
cases under the heads of Dowry murders (16) Abetment to Suicide (101), under Dowry death (52) and Dowry Prohibition Act. (155) during the year 2001.
- Ranga
Reddy district registered highest number of cases (69) under Rape followed
by West Godavari (58) and Karimnagar
(55).
- Vijayawada City
ranked first in registering cases under Dowry Harassment (491)
followed by Hyderabad City (466)
Ranga Reddy (422) Karimnagar (389)
and Guntur (378).
- Guntur district registered highest number of
cases under Murder of Women (56) and Nellore district registered highest
number of cases under kidnapping (73).
- 62
cases of Bigamy were registered in Warangal district which is highest
followed by Mahaboobnagar and
Anantapur districts (47 each), Medak (45) and Guntur (43).
- Hyderabad
City (742) is highest in Crime Against
Women followed by Vijayawada City (699) and Visakhapatnam City (306
cases).
